Don't Forget the Epstein Files

Our media finally remembered this week.

Since the start of the Iran don’t-call-it-a-War, our weekly show notes have included a simple, one-word item: Epstein. With very little detail listed, because there have been enough new outrages and crimes to fill up 3-5 pages of notes.

And just about every week, Aliza has reminded us that we must not forget the thousands of women who were used and abused by Epstein and his web of wealthy and powerful men. And that justice still has not been served.

Despite the lessons of the last ten years, I do still cling to some magical thinking along the lines of the truth wants to be free. And that there is such a thing as karma. And whatever is in the unreleased Epstein files will eventually find its way out - no matter how hard Trump’s Justice Department tries to hold on to them.

On Tuesday, we learned just how much the Administration tried to keep that information under wraps, especially as it related to Donald Trump. (The URL above is a gift link, in case any of you still have not been able to read the whole thing).

“The thing that makes me sick about all of this is just that these people live in a different world. They live in a different universe where it’s okay to just throw away people, you know, to use them and toss them,” Karoli said.

(She also had some choice words for reporters who save the most important stories for their book deals - but those were uttered on Tuesday, before we recorded the show.)

Other topics we covered this week included:

  • That monstrosity on the White House south lawn (“there is a rendering out there, an AI rendering of the claw as one of those baby things that they lay, you know, when they do tummy time”)

  • Midterm elections and trumped-up allegations of cheating in California

  • The new nominee for DNI

  • And Hunter Biden’s masterclass in dealing with online trolls.

I should warn you: this was a drinking podcast. By the time I’d finished the notes, I was feeling so despaired by the mass of bad stuff and meanness, I got out the shaker and made a 4 PM Manhattan. Karoli was recovering from a terrible day of travel from Michigan back to California, so she poured herself some wine. And we kind of bullied Aliza into joining us (hey, it was already 7:00 where she lives, so she likely would have enjoyed some bourbon anyway). We did make her hiccup.
