How to Celebrate Labor Day 2025
Dozens of activist groups joining the AFL-CIO to protest the billionaire takeover
Thanks to a dental emergency on Wednesday, I was unavailable to record this week’s podcast at our usual time. We debated when to do it, and Karoli and I voted for Thursday because you never want to send something out to your subscribers on a holiday weekend. This meant that Aliza had to try to shift her schedule - something she was unable to do, and we ended up recording without her.
So (of course) the technology gods decided to punish us with a 12-hour delay on processing our Thursday afternoon video. And I had a commitment on Friday that kept me away from the computer for most of the day.
Please accept our apologies for sending this late, AND over Labor Day weekend. We’re keeping it short and sweet.
We wish all our readers, listeners, and viewers a restful holiday. But I also hope those of you who are able will be attending one of the Workers Over Billionaire events occurring all over the country on Monday.
After yet another month of bonkers authoritarian assaults on the American people by this president and his minions, it is important they see that we are not obeying in advance.
It is just as important to send a message to our Congressional representatives that we expect them to fight just as hard. It has been heartening to see Democratic governors like JB Pritzker, Wes Moore, and Kathy Hochul take up the mantle (and as Californians, Karoli and I could not be prouder of our own governor’s team of social media trolls - not to mention the way Gavin Newsom is taking the fight for fair and free elections to the ballot box with Proposition 50).
One Last Thing
My thing on Friday required me to drive along just about ALL of Southern California’s “delightful” freeways (I’m exaggerating - but I was literally behind the wheel for a total of five hours (and only 126 miles). When I got home and described my day, my husband said I sounded just like this. And he’s not wrong. EVERYONE in Los Angeles sounds like this at least some of the time, which is why these SNL sketches are still funny.
